Dream
and Discover offers enrichment for young children and their families.
We gather for shared meals, hands-on arts activities, and lots and lots
of outside play and gardening. Parents are actively involved in play and
group activities.
Our days include outdoor play (in all kinds of weather!), snack, group
songs & stories, child-chosen play & projects.
We believe that learning happens as naturally and easily as breathing.
Just as our children learn to walk and talk in their own time and at their
own pace, so will they learn to read and write and compute and problem
solve. There is no “curriculum.” Instead, we fill our space
with the most wonderful and stimulating educational materials we can find
and then trust the children to choose activities according to their interests
and needs. Materials and activities offered include:
•a dedicated art "studio," fully equipped with art supplies
and materials accessible to the children every day
•group and individual music experiences, including singing &
dancing, playing musical instruments, listening to recorded & live
music, and hosting guest musicians
•materials that stimulate and encourage imaginative play, including
fanciful dress-up clothing & props, soft toys & cozy nooks, and
developmentally appropriate games & toys
•activity centers where children can freely explore and work with
natural science objects & collections, math manipulatives & problem
solving games, fun and educational puzzles, and an extensive selection
of building sets & blocks
•real-life literacy tools and artifacts interspersed throughout
the cabin, such that children can choose to read & write about any
activity and in any space, while adults are available to encourage and
support literacy development
•an endless supply of lovely, inviting, and much-loved books that
are shared and enjoyed by children and adults alike
•opportunities to participate in planned small-group activities,
such as creating a craft, learning a new art technique, conducting a science
experiment, planning a puppet show, or writing and illustrating a book
•frequent opportunities to engage in real work with other children
and adults, such as baking in the kitchen, planting in the garden, sewing
curtains for the cabin, or building bookshelves for the reading corner
•free access to our fenced-in backyard, garden, playground, and
walking trails, with adult supervision
•and last but not least, ample room to spread out & relax and
plenty of soft, cozy areas for snuggling, resting, & dreaming.
